Every year since 1980 some 300 PRIDES volunteers have maintained Sun City as one of the cleanest, most beautiful cities in America by pruning, fertilizing, planting, irrigating, picking up litter, spraying weeds and more. They harvest oranges from 3,000 trees, 1,800 of which are painted to protect them from the sun. They maintain 400 irrigation systems, more than 210 miles of streets, and clean 11 miles of drainage ditches. The PRIDES are proud to have maintained their volunteer efforts without ever having conducted a fund drive, and hope to continue that way even though they must frequently purchase and maintain supplies and equipment: vans, mowers, sprayers, saws, fertilizer, weed spray and more. If you have the time, energy or inclination, become a PRIDES member or volunteer. You can also make a difference by joining the eScrip program. Each time you make a purchase using your free debit or credit card that is registered with the program, the participating merchants contribute to the PRIDES. There are more than 7,700 residents here in Sun City who have signed up for the eScrip program. There is no cost to the residents; the donation to the PRIDES is from participating merchants.
